  • Design is the action of bringing something new and desired into existence, a positive attitude that resolves or dissolves problematic situations by design.
  • Everything we have around us has been designed.
  • Design ability is, in fact, one among the three fundamental dimensions of human intelligence. Design, science, and art form an ‘AND’ not an ‘OR’ relationship to create the unbelievable human thinking ability.

DESIGN THINKING

  • Design Thinking may be a methodology employed by designers to unravel complex problems, and find desirable solutions for clients.
  • A design mindset is not problem-focused, it’s solution focused and action oriented towards creating an ideal future.
  • The design thinking cycle involves observation to urge unmet needs within things , framing the prospect and scope of innovation, generating creative ideas, testing and refining solutions.

DESIGN THINKING INFORMS HUMAN-CENTERED INNOVATION

  • Human-centered innovation begins with developing an understanding of customers, or users, unmet or unspoken needs.
  • The most secure source of new ideas that have true competitive advantage, and hence, higher margins, is customer’s un articulated needs.
  • Customer intimacy—a deep knowledge of consumers and their problems—helps to uncover those needs.
  • Design thinkers believe customer insights gained from real-world experiments, not just historical data or marketing research .
  • Design thinking minimizes the uncertainty and risk of innovation by engaging customers or users through a series of prototypes to find out , test and refine concepts.
  • Creativity is central to the design process.

CREATIVITY

  • “Being creative means to bring into being something that wasn't there before”
  • Creativity is regarded as a thinking process that is aimed at originality, generating ideas or creating new solutions for old problems.
  • Creativity makes unusual associations or finds new ways of looking at things, avoids routines, breaks rules, takes risks, is imaginative, has a playful attitude and celebration flexible thinking.
  •  Creativity is not limited to design or any other disciplines but involves scientists, artists, teachers, managers, hospitality, tourism providers etc.
  • Creative thoughts can be regarded as an establishment of new mental patterns that are inspired by unanswered questions and redefinition of values or relationships.

ZIPPER

  • A zipper which is also referred to as a zip is a fastening device. It is commonly used for binding the edges of the opening of fabrics or other flexible materials, including, clothing, luggage, bags, tents and sleeping bags etc.

CREATIVE USE OF ZIPPERS

  • In 2005 Chilean designer Sebastian Errazuiriz used 120 metal zippers to create his “N3” (teeth width 3mm)
  • zipper dress. Highly customizable, the dress allows the wearer to vary its length. You can start your day in a hip-hugging one piece, and then simply unzip the mid-section to create a provocative skirt with matching tube top.
